About the Financial Aid Application

Please read the following section carefully before starting your application.
The financial aid application process is divided into several steps:

Step 1:


Personal information and household income


This section will ask questions about an applicant’s household in order to assess their financial circumstances. They would be asked to provide information and documentation on potential sources of income, total monthly income earned in their household, and the types of assets owned by their family.

About You

Here applicants will provide more information and documentation about themselves and their current guardianship status.

Step 3:


Education Financing


This section will inquire as to how and how much one was able to pay for previous schooling, whether high school or university. High school tuition receipts, among other documents will be required.

Step 4:


ALU Partner Affiliation


Please go through our list of Partners and indicate which program or institution one may be affiliated with.  (If not affiliated with any, please do not select any as you will be expected to verify this.)

Step 5:


Narrative Submission


In this section, an applicant would be required to provide videos and essays on various themes such as leadership potential, community service and entrepreneurial mindsets.

What to know about Supporting Documentation

Whether making a grant application or scholarship application,
you will be required to provide documentation in support of the information you’ve provided. We have provided a list of documents you should consider uploading depending on the information you provide in your application.

Please note that failure to submit the required documents will lead to an automatic dismissal of your application. Given the vast number of applications we receive, we will only review applications that have the required documentation provided.
Official Letters that are not signed and/or lack contact information will not be accepted as supporting documents.

Please ensure that all documents submitted are either in English, French or Kinyarwanda, we will not be able to review an application that is in any language other than English, French or Kinyarwanda.

Your Household Information


This section will ask you questions about yourself and your household in order to determine your financial situation. You would be asked to provide information on potential sources of income, total monthly income earned in your household, and the types of assets owned by your family.

The member of your community has to be someone notable e.g. religious or local leader, who may act as a reference to confirm your family's financial circumstances.

NB: Please note that a letter from the applicant is not acceptable as proof of income unless the applicant themselves is the breadwinner. The official letter has to be from the guardian/employer/reference and be dated and signed and have full contact details. Please submit an Essay responding to the following prompt. The Essay should be at least 300 words long and should be submitted in English.
At ALCHE we believe Missions guide our learning journey to becoming future leaders of Africa. What is your mission to create a better future for the continent, your country and/or your community? How does it tie into your desired course of study?




At ALCHE, we journey with our students toward living lives of impact. These young leaders are actively engaged in their communities and do hard things that have an extraordinary impact on the world around them. Please submit a 5 minute video (in English) telling us about yourself and answer at least 2 of the following questions;
  1. What service, innovation, or impact have you created/had on your community?
  2. Describe an entrepreneurial or innovative idea or concept that you have pursued in the past. Feel free to showcase proof of your work in this video.
  3. How are you planning to positively impact your community, your country or the African continent in the next five years should you be granted this scholarship?




Select one or two recommenders who know you well, who have witnessed your challenges, shared in your accomplishments, and who can speak to your communal impact. These individuals must be able to provide specific examples, stories, and evidence of your development as a leader.
Your letters of reference must be;
  1. Written by someone in good standing in your community e.g. (former) teacher, mentor, religious or local civil leader . It should not be written by a family member or friend
  2. Be at least 250 words
  3. Be originally written in English or French
  4. Must include a hand-written signature and the sender's contact details
  5. The applicant may not write, draft, edit, or translate the letter of reference
